Flood Insurance Information
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
has recently conducted an update of the Federal Insurance
Study (FIS) regarding flooding of York County. As a result
of this update, modifications have been made to the
floodplain boundaries within Chanceford Township.
Therefore, some properties now are located either entirely
or partially within a floodplain boundary or have changed
floodplain hazard area designation.
The updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for
Chanceford Township are located at the Township Office on
Muddy Creek Forks Road in Brogue. It is recommended that
residents located near a body of water (creek, pond,
river, wetland, etc.), any residents currently owning
flood insurance, and all concerned residents review the
maps to determine if flood insurance will be needed or if
your property has changed flood hazard zones.
Chanceford Township is a participating member of the
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). NFIP is based on
the agreement that if a community practices sound
floodplain management, the Federal Government will make
flood insurance available to residents in that community.
The Flood Insurance Preferred Risk Policy, flood insurance
at reduced rates, may be applicable to you for your
property. This policy is based on the Grandfathering Rule
of the NFIP. There are many different scenarios in which
you may be able to save money on flood insurance. It is
recommended that you contact your insurance agent in the
near future to discuss this option and determine if it is
applicable to your property. In order to be eligible for
the Preferred Risk Policy and the reduced rate you must
have the insurance policy before the new FIRM’s become
effective on September 25, 2009.
